Cahors -
The Vineyards of the “High Country” of the South West are among the
oldest vineyards of France and show an incredible diversity of grapes.
The Vineyard of Cahors is probably the most ancient, as it was
originated before the arrival of the Romans in Gaulle. The Pope of
Avignon, John XXII, called on Winemakers of Cahors to create the
“Chateauneuf du Pape” Appellation. Nearly totally destroyed by the
fierce frost of 1956, the vines are now represented by a majority of
Malbec, and some Merlot and Tannat.
The wines of Cahors are powerful and generous, strong in
color and in personality, these wines are bound to appeal to the
American palate. |
